Why are we not focusing all of our efforts on developing Artificial Intelligence?

It seems to me that unless we starting getting serious about AI, humanity doesn't have a chance. Our problems are piling up and we are simply not intelligent enough to solve them, EVEN with google. Human intellect is just not sufficient to solve the problems that humans create. Namely, mathematics dictates that we are capable of creating problems on the order of 2^I where I is the magnitude our our intellect, but we are only capable of solving problems of magnitude I. The path we are on is unsustainable. We need AI to solve the problems we have created, otherwise the chances of life on Earth surviving the next 2 decades is ZERO. We are going to blow ourselves up. I am 100% sure. I don't have a doubt in my mind that is what is going to happen if we don't start getting serious about developing AI.
