Is the NFL real or scripted?

Now ive played football for 8 years, so i know the game itself is real, and the pain and love of the game is real, but do the people high up and secret people determine what teams will make it and what teams wont do good in a season. Please no bad comments, its an honest to god question. AND WHY WONT FAVRE RETIRE!!! ha
